Artist Statement:
I want to explore and express myself as an artist in today's society by turning the deep truths inside of us into thoughtful conversations. It is important to me that my work is never lackluster, but it is also important that I stay true to myself, the work and my audience. Entertainment is not my purpose. I want to be on the journey with the audience, every new discovery they see, I see. This is a journey we as a whole will take together with trust from one another. As someone who is afraid of the unknown, it is my duty to keep pushing my limits for myself and the people I surround myself with.
I have always been taught to leap, even though my fear is always lurking in the background. Becoming other people makes me see problems within my world that I was never able to experience before. My life has always been surrounded by the arts. Being a part of a community of artist’s has always helped me feel less alone and afraid. It is imperative for me to make my own community; a community of visual artists, playwrights, musicians, dancers etc. But really a community of creators, where we can collaboratively inspire each other to make new work.
Working through different mediums is important to me. With time I have learned to keep my options open. When something feels difficult I try not to put too much energy into making it perfect, but instead to try something new and work on a different skill. This then brings ease into my practices to know that I am not bound to one path.
My pathway will not be linear, I am open to my path and the various branches. This is not easy, but it is important for me to remember to stay true to myself. I am open to anything for right now to discover what kind of artist I am destined to be. I want to create in this new world that we are now stepping into, with compassion and a desire to always learn. I am interested in creating new works and in experimenting in old ones to reflect on how change is possible within our society. I want everyone’s experience to be heard, especially from the voices that have been lost.
